June 12 CNA Pinning Ceremony

On June 12, 2010 Gwinnett County Public Schools, in collaboration with Maxwell High School of Technology, held its first ever Certified Nursing Assistant Pinning Ceremony. Pinning Ceremony's in the nursing arena date back to the late 1800's and early 1900's. It was a way to recognize those individuals who were dedicating themselves to a life of health, healing, and compassion for those in need. Forty-three students were qualified by state mandates and regulation to be eligible to test for the state CNA exam. They performed their clinical practice at Gwinnett Medical Center as well as Delmar Gardens Assisted Living facility. As of today, all students who have taken the state exam have successfully passed, thus causing Maxwell to have a 100% pass rate amongst testing students. These students are now able to work with a certification which is the entry level to nursing! As a registered nurse, I am delighted to have been a part of such an awesome program. We are so very, very proud of the class of 2009-2010!
