The Spanish course is designed to develop language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, from the most basic to the more advanced. An awareness of Hispanic Culture will also be promoted. These goals will be accomplished through the study of vocabulary, culture, and grammar with special emphasis on reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
Cultural Objectives
Demonstrate basic understanding of social customs and cultural information of the target countries including nonverbal communication
Explore an awareness of similarities and differences among the target cultures and the United States.
Develop sensitivity to and appreciation for the diverse perspectives and practices of cultures in an international community.
Learn about Hispanic history, holidays, foods, songs and dances
The students in Spanish I will be able to:
Respond to basic questions and statements
Ask for and exchange basic information with other
Manipulate common sequences successfully
Use target language to ask for clarification or express confusion
Follow simple directions
Use appropriate language in basic social situation, both formal and informal, to express regret, explanations, permission, greeting, and farewells
Use interjections or short phrases to express emotions
Understand and use common male and female names and titles
Express likes and dislikes agreement and disagreement
Understand and participate in simple dialogues
Give limited descriptions
Listen to, read, and demonstrate comprehension of variety of simple material
Become proficient in the use of various Spanish software grammar and self assessment programs
In addition students in Spanish II will be able to:

Use appropriate languages for making purchases and performing daily transactions
Listen to, read and comprehend a variety of materials
Understand and express likes and dislikes, agreements and disagreements, needs and certainties

Follow and give a simple series of directions
